The District of Enfield

Some information about the district I'm running for:

Origin of the name

In 1843 George Hickox laid out the village of Enfield that comprised 44 quarter acre blocks.  He named the village after his birthplace in Middlesex, England—derived from either the Anglo Saxon word enedfeld, meaning “duck field,” or the old English word feld meaning “open country.”

Area

Approximately 20.7 square kilometres.

Location

North of the electoral districts of Adelaide and Croydon, the area is residential, with some light industry.  The northern boundary is Grand Junction Road, and it includes the suburbs of Mansfield Park and Woodville Gardens on the west, and Clearview and Broadview on the right.

Local Government areas

The district partially includes the local government areas of the City of Port Adelaide Enfield, the City of Prospect, and the City of Charles Sturt.

History

First created over 1956–1970, the district was revived at the 1998 redistribution of electoral boundaries, and was formerly Ross Smith.

Boundary changes (effective 20 March 2010)

There were no changes to the boundaries in the 2007 redistribution.  (Main boundaries changes, only.  For full details, see the 2007 Report of the Electoral Districts Boundaries Commission at www.ecsa.sa.gov.au.)

Members since the seat was first represented in 1956 (lapsed 1970–2002)

John J. Jennings (ALP) 1956–1970
John R. Rau (ALP) 2002–
