More community involvement in government—regular meetings with their representatives, and their representatives being bound to act on their electorates wishes. A real commitment to democracy.
A 50% paycut (politicians get paid too much, anyway), using the excess money to fund community involvement.
Politicians pay should be managed by an independent system, just like any other workers. They shouldn't be able to vote themselves pay rises.
Lobby against compulsary voting.
Extend the voting period to more than just one day, this would allow people who might otherwise be unable to attend on a single polling day.
Voting more often (something like company annual general meetings). This would give the people more say. The current long period of several years between elections means that politicians have almost free reign to do as they will for several years.
Government offices should be staffed adquately to answer the phones with real people, instead of automatic systems. No more “press 1 for this, press 2 for that,” then you hang-up because they don't have a choice applicable to your query, get cut off by their system, or wait forever to speak to a human.
NB: I'm still concerned with issues that I've raised during previous elections. You can read about them by following the links on the table of contents page.
